I know a man who allows me to express my religious beliefs without shame or trepidation. He is not a friend, nor an acquaintance, he is merely someone who has stepped into my life for a purpose. What that purpose is, I believe I know, but like everything we are most certain about, we are usually proven wrong.
For whatever reason, I am connected to this man.

From the moment he appeared in my life, I have felt a very strong urgency to guide him through his difficulties. Or, is it he who is guiding me? Life's ironies. You think you're the one helping, when in fact, you are the one being helped. Whatever the case may be I know we were lovingly placed in each other's path by divine intervention. He is currently experiencing many painful and life altering health issues. He is frightened and losing not only hope, but much more damaging to him, his faith.

Religion is not something I subscribe to. However, it is not something one must ever take away from a believer. We all need a higher power to cling to in our darkest hours. Religion, for so many, is that power. After all, what is spirituality if it is not tolerant of another's need to believe?
I pray this man finds the resolve he so desperately seeks. He is by all accounts, a very good man. Pious though he may be, one has to wonder why so many religious people have such little faith.
