"Theodora - Wonderful message, an excellent analogy, and thoughtful insight... Prior to opening your article, I was sitting this morning thinking about the foolishness of youth; mine, my friends, my children, the youth of today and tomorrow and realized surviving is a reward, it seems just too obvious to say, yet we just don't understand how wonderful it is until the tidal wave washes away and we are on the beach again, that although the beach is forever changed... it is still the beach and we are on it. Everyone faces a tidal wave." - Anonymous

Autumn Leaves Fall

Autumn Leaves Fall.
Writer's Write.
Ice Creams Melt.
You get the picture, we've come to expect certain things in life. I like knowing what to expect. It's comforting. Like warm bath towels. They're very comforting!

Things that we have come to expect, or take for granted would be missed if they were not there anymore. Like baseball games and beer. Our morning coffee together with our local news. Soft rain in Spring and turning our clocks back in the Fall. These are things our culture has learned to live with and would find it unsettling to live without.

The air we breath, the water we do so much with, the fresh fruits and vegetables we enjoy in season or out, and the varied and vast amounts of fish and meats we eat daily, are all part of the ever growing expectations of our planet. It would be unthinkable to live without the basics. As westerners we consider all of the above mentioned "basic" living essentials.

The joke around town is that we are experiencing what green scientists have labeled "global warming". Most people are afraid to accept that it is in fact one of the greatest concerns facing our world today. Those that try and understand the severity of the situation become despondent. What can one person do they ask.

Life is not about giving up, but about facing and meeting the challenges of our time. If we are to pass this planet on to other generations then we are responsible, as its stewards, to care for it. Consider a world without drinkable water. Reminds me of a famous line from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge...Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. Consider the possibilities of a world without green pastures, forests or beaches.

One person, joined with another, joined with another, forms a link that is strong and effective. If each one of us were to take care of our own space, and if our neighbor were to do the same, and his neighbor the same, then we would all be doing our part to heal the planet and secure and healthy future for generations to come. You see, one person can do so much on their own.

Lead by example and they will follow...
