"Theodora - Wonderful message, an excellent analogy, and thoughtful insight... Prior to opening your article, I was sitting this morning thinking about the foolishness of youth; mine, my friends, my children, the youth of today and tomorrow and realized surviving is a reward, it seems just too obvious to say, yet we just don't understand how wonderful it is until the tidal wave washes away and we are on the beach again, that although the beach is forever changed... it is still the beach and we are on it. Everyone faces a tidal wave." - Anonymous

Finding That Happy Place in the Unexpected

Finding that "happy place" today is so important. When I think back on all the times I've gotten soaked just before opening my umbrella I question why I bother to bring them in the first place? I suppose it looks much better if you are sporting an umbrella on a rainy day as opposed to not having one in hand. Appearances are everything - especially when your hair is soaked and you look a fright! But, what fun awaits you when you finally arrive at the Pub you and your friends agreed to meet at after work. The minute you walk through the crowds and spot them laughing and making a fuss over your condition, well, it makes what you've been through - part of what you're sharing - a silly story with friends who are glad to see you.

That's what umbrellas are all about. The journey. The moment when you close it up and place it in the rack. You're inside finally, and the puddle made from the soaked umbrella is showing you how much help it's been . The house is quiet, kids are not expected home for the evening. You run a hot bath to warm up before putting on the kettle and making yourself a much needed cup of tea. Socks and P.J.'s on, fire place ablaze, you settle into your favorite chair with a cup of tea in one hand, and the book you bought while gallivanting about on a rainy day, in the other.

Oh yes.  That is a happy place...
