"Theodora - Wonderful message, an excellent analogy, and thoughtful insight... Prior to opening your article, I was sitting this morning thinking about the foolishness of youth; mine, my friends, my children, the youth of today and tomorrow and realized surviving is a reward, it seems just too obvious to say, yet we just don't understand how wonderful it is until the tidal wave washes away and we are on the beach again, that although the beach is forever changed... it is still the beach and we are on it. Everyone faces a tidal wave." - Anonymous

A Country Divided

'Another U-Haul truck in front of someone's home.  How many does that make in just a few months?'  I asked my son as I looked out his bedroom window onto the house across the street.  'Too many', he responded as he buried his head in his pillow trying to ignore my presence.

Too many indeed.  I wanted to believe they were moving into a bigger home, but this neighborhood is the last step before moving into lower income housing.  Most people rent like I do.  Most have moved here after down-sizing, like I did.  That family had three children all under the age of 12.  Did both parents work?  Were they both unemployed?  Maybe they bought their own home?  Maybe it's easier to fool myself because the alternative is too frightening, for them, and me.  Hope breeds hope.  If others make it, then it gives encouragement to the rest of us.

Getting through the month these days is a struggle.  Teenage boys need to eat, and want to date... all of that costs money, and never seems to stretch till the end of the month.  Borrowing from Paul to pay Peter only gets you so far, for so long.  I read an article this morning that the rich have been getting richer.  Isn't that always the case?  The poor carry the brunt of the nation's problems, and the rich reap the rewards of our misfortune.

We are a broken country!  Severed by our political beliefs, and bleeding internally.  And a politically divided country is a country that has sold it's own people to feed the insatiable greed and power of its leaders.  Our country is at war with itself!  A war that broke out when our politicians began abusing their power.

And what do we, as citizens of this once great nation, do?  Nothing!  We do nothing.  Ingesting everything they force feed us on television, the internet and at schools.  Fixated on problems they splash across our T.V. screens and tabloid headlines.   We are nothing more then trained mice running through a maze constructed long ago.
